New Florida Laws

The State of Florida will now allow an agricultural hemp program to be developed. The hemp measure will require the agricultural department to create a regulatory framework to address hemp regulation issues, such as licensing people or businesses that want to grow hemp and requiring them to provide detailed information about where hemp would be cultivated.

Florida's indoor smoking ban has been expanded to include vaping, which is now banned statewide at indoor workplaces.

Texting while driving is now a primary moving violation in Florida. Cops can pull you over for suspicion of using your phone or another wireless communications device to write, send, or read non-voice interpersonal communication such as a text, email, or instant message.

After several deaths from Hurricane Irma, this law passed requiring all nursing home facilities to have back up generators to ensure air conditioning is always available. A $168.8 million dollar tax cut package went into effect to give breaks to the nursing homes purchasing generators.

This law makes it a second degree felony to make any threats online regarding acts of terrorism or conducting a mass shooting, by any means of electronic device or social networking.
