Woman arrested after causing fatal vehicle crash

One woman in Florida is currently behind bars after allegedly killing a man in a vehicle accident while driving on a license that had been revoked. The woman was arrested following the accident, which took place on a recent Sunday morning in late February. She is 27 years old.

According to police, the woman was heading north on a parkway at around 1:50 a.m. Police tried to pull the woman over for driving too quickly, but she ended up fleeing, and police pursued her. A deputy eventually stopped the chase to prevent harm to other drivers.

Police said the woman continued speeding and ran a red light at an intersection. At that point, the woman struck a car driven by a 23-year-old man, and he died in the collision. The woman was apprehended and now faces charges of driving with a revoked license, as well as vehicular homicide. She had previously gotten in trouble for driving with no license, driving under the influence and speeding. Authorities continued to investigate the collision.

It is within the rights of the woman who was arrested to go to trial to contest the criminal charges filed against her. As her case moves forward through Florida's criminal justice system, the woman -- alongside her legal counsel -- might have the chance to negotiate a plea deal in exchange for favorable sentencing considerations. The decision of whether to accept a plea agreement, if one is offered, rests solely with her. The criminal defense will push for a decision that will ultimately be in the defendant's best interests.
