Man faces charges in Florida in connection with violent crime

One man in Florida faces charges of murder following the shooting death of another man. The alleged violent crime took place in March 2015. The man was charged in connection with it on a recent Monday.

Charges were filed against the man after police said physical evidence along with statements from witnesses pointed to the man as the shooter. The man is in prison right now on charges not related to the shooting but now faces the murder accusation. The alleged victim was 41.

At the time the shooting happened, authorities said shots were fired at about 2 a.m. They found the man who was shot breathing and conscious. He was transported to the hospital and later died there. The initial police investigation revealed that he was killed during his attempt to purchase crack cocaine.

A person who has been accused of committing a violent crime has the right to contest the charges, along with the right to be represented by legal counsel. Prosecutors must prove the formal accusations beyond a reasonable doubt in court, and failing that, no conviction can be secured. The defendant may be offered the opportunity to strike a plea deal with the prosecution, which could lead to a lighter sentence that what would be imposed following a finding of guilt at trial. The criminal defense will fight for an outcome that is ultimately in the individual's best interests while also seeking to ensure that the client's applicable legal rights are upheld at all stages of the criminal proceedings in Florida.
