Florida criminal defense: Teen may qualify for boot camp program

A teen who currently resides in Florida has been charged for his alleged involvement in a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this year. This young man is facing a felony murder charge that could result in significant jail time if he is convicted. The teenager's mom and his criminal defense team claim he was merely a tagalong in the incident and is innocent. They are still working to achieve the best possible outcome for this tragic situation.

According to a report, the 15-year-old was with his older brother at an apartment complex in Miami when an alleged drug deal went south. The teenager's brother and another young man were shot and killed while supposedly trying to rob marijuana dealers. Other than being present when this incident occurred, the report did not specify if the accused had any further involvement in the crime.

The teen is expected to be tried as an adult for the felony murder charge. Prosecuting attorneys have suggested that the accused may qualify for a boot camp program that could reduce any jail time he may receive if convicted. This type of program would offer rehabilitation such as behavior-modification courses, drug treatment and job training.

At this time, it is unknown whether or not the teen or his criminal defense team have considered the boot camp suggestion. As with any criminal case in Florida or elsewhere, it takes time to fully evaluate all of one's options in order to make sure any final decisions truly are in the best interests of the accused. An experienced defense attorney will be able to assist the client in determining the best course of action to pursue for his particular circumstances.
