College athlete facing violent crime charges

A quarterback for Florida State University has been arrested and charged with battery in connection with an incident that took place in a local bar. The young man has been suspended from the football team in the wake of those accusations, and now faces trial on violent crime charges. As of the time of this report, the only information released in the matter comes from the police report and statements made by a state attorney prosecuting the case.

The arrest comes after an altercation took place in a Tallahassee bar between the college athlete and a woman. According to the woman, she was waiting at the bar to order a drink when she was pushed. She admits trying to strike the football player, but alleges that she was only trying to get away from him. She claims that he responded by punching her in the face.

The incident was captured on surveillance video, and police have been able to watch that footage to gain an idea of the series of events that took place. It is unclear whether the woman knew the athlete or if there had been any previous contact between the two. The footage has not yet been released to the public, and one spokesperson for the police department has stated that while video evidence can be helpful in a criminal investigation, it does not always provide a full accounting of an incident.

As of yet, the Florida State University quarterback has not issued any statement regarding the violent crime charges. He has retained the services of a defense attorney, and the next step will involve making an assessment of the events that led to the incident and reviewing the video footage. Statements made by FSU students show a mix of reactions to the story, ranging from outrage to a measured "wait-and-see" approach.
