Man facing criminal charges after falling asleep in home

Many of the crimes that Florida residents are charged with are of a predictable nature. A man steals a car, a woman robs a convenience store. Someone buys drugs, another individual sell drugs. However, there are some cases that provide exceptions, and it is these arrests that many people remember the most. The following case is an example of an unusual series of events that have led to criminal charges for one Florida man.

Police were called to a home in Nokomis, Florida, after a housekeeper reported finding an unconscious man in a home she was cleaning. When officers arrived, they purportedly found the man in the same spot, still asleep, with a bag of jewelry sitting on the bed next to him. He remained asleep, even as police began taking photos of the scene.

The man was arrested and is being charged with burglary of an unoccupied home. There were no details released as to whether the man was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the alleged incident. Additionally, there is no mention of whether he may have taken other items out of the home prior to the arrival of police.

In responding to these criminal charges, the man's defense team may focus on the unusual circumstances that led to the arrest. It is possible that drug or alcohol abuse may have played a causal role in his strange behavior. In addition, there have been cases in the past in which an individual taking prescription medication have had unusual reactions to various drugs, and have acted out of character. These and other possible causes will be explored by the man's attorney. In this case, his decision to apparently take a nap in the home of strangers could confuse the issue of what, exactly, his intentions may have been.
