Florida man charged with drunk driving after deadly car accident

A Florida man is facing charges for drunk driving after a fatal car accident claimed the life of a construction worker. According to the report, the man failed sobriety tests that are typically administered when drunk driving is suspected. The man was officially charged with DUI causing injury and death and DUI causing property damage.

The accused drunk driver struck two men who was working in a construction zone along U.S. 41. The two men were pinned by the vehicle and one succumbed to his injuries after he was taken to the hospital. The other is now considered to be in serious condition. The accused driver and a six-year-old in the car suffered minor injuries.

Florida law enforcement officers say that the driver said he did not see the lighted sign directing drivers to change lanes. Although the man faces serious criminal charges, he is still considered innocent in the eyes of the law because he has not been convicted of these charges. A DUI defense may include fighting the charges filed by the prosecution, but it could also include working with his legal team to secure a plea agreement. The best options for defendants will differ on a case by case basis.

When charged with drunk driving, an individual has the option to pursue the optimal outcome and secure lower fines and penalties. Before taking a plea agreement or following any other DUI defense plan, it is best to evaluate the situation carefully. This can help an individual determine the best decision for his or her individual needs, as is the right of any defendant facing criminal charges.
