Volusia County man charged with robbery after car crash

Individuals with prior criminal convictions understandably want to avoid the serious consequences that can result from another arrest. Sometimes people do desperate things to avoid going to jail. However, when desperation turns into the urge to flee police, a matter of moments can lead to multiple serious charges.

A 30-year-old man with a prior criminal record has been accused of a number of crimes, including fleeing police in Daytona Beach. The vehicle the man was driving ran off the road and crashed, and he reportedly had to be cut from the wreckage and given emergency medical treatment.

Police allege that the man tried to rob a business on Mason Ave. Specifically, he is accused of pointing a pellet handgun at an employee and requesting money.

The employee reportedly set off an alarm, and police arrived at the scene. Authorities claim the accused man fled the area on foot before he encountered another man and his teenage son. According to police, the fleeing man threatened the father and son with the pellet gun and got into the vehicle with the father, who began driving.

At some point, the father got out of the vehicle, and the accused man began driving before the car crashed into some woods.

That the teenage boy was involved has led to a charge of putting a child in danger, in addition to charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault and carjacking.

These are all extremely serious charges that will require a strong criminal defense. Volusia County residents facing any kind of criminal charge should speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney sooner rather than later.
